An Application-Level Network Mapper

Abstract : This paper presents a tool to automatically discover the network topology. The goal is to evaluate the performance of concurrent transfers (for example to improve collective communications) and not to discover the physical machines interconnection scheme (for administration purposes). The problems encountered, preliminary algorithms to solve them, as well as theoretical proof of their validity (under some conditions) are presented.
