Abstract : Many reconstruction techniques allow obtaining a 3D model of a real object. In the case of an iterative construction, it is necessary to quantify the quality of this reconstructed model. The objective of this work is to evaluate the metrics used to assess the quality of a reconstructed model to integrate them in the iterative reconstruction process to solve the Next Best View (NBV) problem. We consider different geometric metrics from the literature to evaluate the quality of a 3D model with respect to a reference model. In particular, we are interested in the response of such metrics to different types of flaws that typically affect a partially reconstructed model, such as the presence of holes and uneven geometric resolution, usually due to occlusions, missing information or lack of image coverage. We created a dataset of different 3D objects to which we applied various degradations, and we then computed the selected metrics to compare each degraded model to its reference model.
