Abstract : This article discusses an innovative rural sustainable development in the municipality of Guaira - Paraná - Brazil. This is the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA), covering 19 rural communities in 2013. The purpose was to analyze the contribution of the participatory rural planning, identifying key needs and potential for sustainable rural development, assessing the degree of importance of different indicators. The methodological tool used in the meetings was the PRA, prioritizing the free popular participation. The propositions obtained in rural areas were grouped into four dimensions: technical, social, economic and environmental. The research technique used was the empirical model, composed by the study case of Participatory Rural Diagnostics. The used form in this study was action research. The results were analyzed by SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences), version 19.0 for Windows. From the farmer's perspective, it is clear that the social dimension, stands out among all others, and the desire for drinking water assumes central importance. In second place, we have the economic demands, especially in aspects related to ease of movement and flow of production (road improvements and paving). In the ranking of priorities the environmental and technical spheres take the third and fourth place respectively in order of priorities for rural public in the municipality of Guaira. The conclusion at the end of the research is that the quality of life and well-being were important and should be considered in the operation of local public policies. To achieve success, public policies should be in accordance to the expectations and dreams of families who remain in the field. The project of building a sustainable agriculture requires democratic participation of the subjects. The aspiration for Sustainable Rural Development includes several aspects and dimensions that should not be overlooked. Participatory methodologies allow the expression of the different actors and the empowerment of people and communities involved.
