New challenges for journalism education A contribution to Unesco politics
Résumé
Never before in the world's history has the need for worldwide journalism education been so pressing as it is now, as we enter the third millennium. Already in the 1980s, the explosion of Asian media and the corresponding increase in commercial media had created an increased demand for certificated courses in journalism. In the course of the 1990's, it was primarily the Middle East and Africa who had demonstrated such needs. And by the year 2000, courses in journalism education had extended over the entire planet, with spectacular growth rates in China and India.
